The Insides System, a novel chyme reinfusion medical device for intestinal failure, received the Gold Award for design excellence at the 2021 Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEAs), in the Gastrointestinal and Genitourinary Devices category.
The Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEAs) first began in 1998 and is regarded as a premier awards program in the medtech industry. The program was established to recognise the significant achievements in the design and engineering of medical products that improve the quality of both healthcare delivery and accessibility.
The host of the MDEAs is the Medical Device + Diagnostic Industry (MD+DI). Established in 1989, MD+DI is a primary resource for manufacturers of medical devices and in-vitro diagnostic products. MD+DI is a part of the Informa Group, a global leader in publishing, business intelligence and conferences. MD+DI host the MDEAs each year to acknowledge innovations that align with the goal of helping industry professionals to develop, design, and manufacture compliant medical products.
This year’s MDEAs panel comprised clinical, engineering and industry leaders. The awards are grouped under five criteria: Design and Engineering Innovations; Functional (User-Related) Innovations; Benefits to Overall Healthcare; Benefits to Patients; and Differentiation in the Market.
Other companies competing in the 2021 MDEAs included Johnson & Johnson, CorVent Medical Inc, Becton, Dickinson and Company, and Medtronic. The Insides Company congratulates the other winners within the Gastrointestinal and Genitourinary Devices Category, Lumenis and Endoluxe, who received the Silver and Bronze respectively.
